My job is often identifying the problem and the client's strengths, and to guide/teach the client how to navigate their problems and think about their problems in a positive and constructive way. I also enjoy teaching and incorporating coping skills practice in a way that allows the client to overcome current issues and positively change their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that contribute to stress and negative thinking. I try to adapt to the client's needs, for example: in some situations, I can be very honest and direct, or I can elicit insight through a series of questions and scenarios. I try to involve and utilize the family to help create a cohesive support unit, and to help create an environment that supports the client as they accomplish their goals. The Counseling models I utilize are: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing Therapy, Psychodynamic, and Client-Centered Approaches. Something important I utilize in therapy and that I hold myself to a high standard is respect and kindness. If a client can respect and be kind to themselves and others, there are infinite opportunities for them to reach their full potential.
