Specializes In:
Brad Shumate helps adults throughout Washington overcome anxiety, depression, trauma-related challenges, and other emotional difficulties through compassionate, evidence-based therapy. As a therapist at LifeStance Health, he provides individual counseling for adults and older adults seeking meaningful, lasting change. Brad’s approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and focused on helping patients move beyond distressing thoughts and behaviors toward greater emotional well-being, resilience, and purpose. Brad is especially passionate about helping individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, complex PTSD, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He understands how these conditions can affect relationships, self-confidence, work performance, and overall quality of life. Drawing on years of clinical experience, he works alongside patients to identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck while building practical skills to support healing and growth. Brad believes that therapy is a process of uncovering strengths that already exist within each person and helping them reconnect with the life they want to live. His therapeutic work incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based practices, and additional evidence-based interventions tailored to each individual’s goals. Brad also provides support for grief, life transitions, relationship concerns, and mood-related challenges. He has experience working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, first responders, and military veterans, while offering care for a variety of additional mental health concerns. Since beginning his clinical career in 2001, Brad has remained committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. He values the therapeutic relationship as one of the most important factors in successful treatment and strives to ensure that every patient feels heard, understood, and actively involved in the process. He completed his education at Park University, Avila University, and University of Missouri – Kansas City. Outside of his professional work, Brad enjoys spending time in nature, doting on his grandsons, and supporting efforts that contribute to the common good. He is also dedicated to lifelong learning, with particular interests in psychology, personal growth, meditation, travel, and maintaining an active lifestyle.
